Remote Sensing
Much science today is accomplished through the analysis of data that is remotely sensed, often from satellites orbiting the earth. Remotely sensed information has several important applications in hydrography: Ice mapping, coastline delimitation, water surface mapping, bathymetric remote sensing and the remote sensing of the properties of water columns in the ocean are all achieved through remote sensing. Remote sensing if often combined with the technology of Geographic Information Systems and the student of one can expect to become familiar with the workings of the other.
