Profile
David was registered and worked as a cadastral surveyor, then lectured in the Department of Surveying at the University of Zimbabwe for seventeen years, publishing papers in the land tenure, cadastral and surveying education areas. He was a team leader in a research project for Zimbabwe's Land Tenure commission. He was Chairman of the Education subcommittee of the Survey Institute of Zimbabwe and also Publications Chairman, and was Secretary to Zimbabwe's National Committee on Land and Geographic Information Systems. While lecturing, David maintained links with the surveying industry as the partner responsible for cadastral surveys in a firm specializing in GPS surveying. Work included GPS control for SPOT imagery in the Zambezi water project, sun azimuths for film work, and a range of photo-control and cadastral surveys. David's PhD compares persisting land custom between Māori and African tribes. He commenced lecturing at Otago in 2007, was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in 2008, and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors.
