Ray was educated in Christchurch and worked there as a technician from 1969 to 1978 when he joined the Surveying department for the first time.
In 1991 the chance for OE was presented and R ay spent 5 happy years in Bahrain in charge of the Survey Control section of the Ministry of Housing. On return Ray was diverted into examining and approving survey datasets in Landonline for LINZ until the opportunity for a return to survey department was taken in 2010.
