SURV499 Vacation Employment
Vacation employment is an important compulsory component of the BSurv degree. Its aim is to enable students to gain experience in the application of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that they have learned in their course work. Each student must complete 80 days employment under the direction and supervision of an appropriate professional person and the work must be related to surveying practice in some way. The work is normally undertaken during the long summer vacation period although credit can be given for work undertaken in shorter breaks throughout the university year. Twenty days may be credited from surveying work undertaken prior to entry into the BSurv 1st professional year. Verification must be presented to the School in the form of a signed letter from the supervising surveyor or engineer who certifies the period worked, number of days work, and the type of work undertaken. It must be surveying or engineering related work.
